Dr. Salman Zakir Scholarship
Dr. Salman Zakir was a compassionate and hard-working 24-year-old physician who passed
away on October 4,
2022,
just four months after graduating from medical school. Salman spent his young life working towards his
goal of becoming a physician. He worked hard in high school and studied tirelessly for the medical school
entry
test
until
he received acceptance to his desired medical school of Khyber Medical College (KMC). Given the
competitive nature
of the government medical schools in Pakistan, Salman was one of just 2% of students accepted to the
medical class
of 2022 in the KPK region.
While we are torn over his untimely death, we want to establish a scholarship fund to help finance medical
school tuition and fees for low-income students. Salman epitomized dedication and love for medicine.
Therefore, there is no better way to honor him than to support the dreams of disadvantaged students with the
same aspirations he lived for.
Medical school tuition and fees at KMC may seem negligible to many of us, but the costs are discouraging for
the average Pakistani who makes less than $100 in an entire month. Tuition, books and boarding fees for
public medical schools in Pakistan for a year total 75,000 rupees or $345 USD. To celebrate Salman's life,
we want to raise funds to finance medical school fees for students with financial needs. Applications are
available for submission decisions will be made on a rolling basis. Those with the most financial need will
be prioritized, and then we will expand to include students who want to apply for merit scholarships.
We would love your help to start this scholarship in memory of Dr. Salman Zakir by donating any amount you
deem appropriate. We thank you in advance.
